Edmonds could be on way to Cubs

We may soon find out whether Jim Edmonds has anything left in the tank.

Edmonds, released by San Diego last week, might be offered a job by the Cubs, who would like to send Felix Pie to the minor leagues to work on his stroke.

If Edmonds clears waivers Wednesday, he could sign with the Cubs and play against right-handed pitching. There's minimum risk for the Cubs. San Diego would assume most of Edmonds' salary. If Edmonds' skills have eroded as much as has been reported, the Cubs would merely release him.

Edmonds has 17 career home runs at Wrigley Field. The Cubs are looking for a few more.
