Mozeliak: Isringhausen asked to see the doctor

Jason Isringhausen was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday. Hours later, General Manager John Mozeliak said Izzy requested to see the doctor about a cut on his right hand that didn't seem to be healing.

Isringhausen was coming off two scoreless outings with the cut on his hand. But Thursday, an infection apparently developed, and Isringhausen gave up four runs, three earned, in the eighth inning of an 11-5 loss to Pittsburgh.

That's the story we're getting. Isringhausen now has time to recover his physical health and regain some emotional stability after a series of rough outings that has ballooned his ERA to 8.00. Mozeliak envisions Isringhausen needing some minor-league rehab time before he rejoins the team.

Chris Perez has arrived from Class AAA Memphis in the meantime and is available for duty tonight when the Cardinals open a three-game interleague series against the talented Tampa Bay Rays.
