Interleague

I'm really over this whole interleague play thing. I mean, it's mildly interesting to see the Rays come to town for the first time.

But I can really do without seeing the Royals come to town again this year. And I'm sure the people in Detroit aren't very excited about seeing the Cardinals come into Motown for the third season in a row.

I think if Interleague play is going to continue, there should at least be a good reason for it. My proposal is that the use of the designated hitter be flip flopped from it's current configuration.

From now on, the DH should be used only in National League parks and the pitchers should bat in American League cities.

Why?

Because I believe fans in American League towns will rediscover how much better the pure, NL game is if they are exposed to it. And fans in the National League will see just how vile the perverted AL form of the game is.

Does anybody really care about watching some has been slugger hang on for a couple of year longer than he really should have been able to? One of the neatest things about baseball is that players have to be well rounded and play both offense AND defense. But there is no way to see how much strategy and intrigue is lost from the game unless you see the game the way it is meant to be played.

Maybe the leagacy of interleague play can be that the 35-year mistake that is the designated hitter will finally be corrected someday.

rick hummel at the P-D wrote about the DH recently. NL is outproducing the AL in terms of offense, and DH's are hitting a collective .240-something, when he wrote the article. think it was in last sunday's edition.

i agree......time to stick a fork it the DH. NL game is so much better, so much more in-game decisions, more use for the entire 25-man roster.
