Lifestyles of the rich and useless
What a suprise. Mark Mulder has suffered yet another "setback" and will but shut down once again.
I've spent money foolishly from time to time. But the Cardinals spent a lifetime worth of money for two years of Mulder and they may not see him get a single victory in that span.
Would someone please explain to me how you have a setback when you've never been able to get off of zero?
Even if the lefty makes a miraculous comeback and somehow gets in shape to pitch sometime in August or September, there is no way at this point that he'll be a difference maker in St. Louis this year or next.
How could the Cardinals justify picking up Mulder's $11 million option in 2009 when they paid him $11.5 million this year and last for nothing? Even if he looks healthy, it's just too much of a risk to take paying that kind of cash to a guy who hasn't pitched effectively since early 2006.
There comes a point where you can't allow yourself to keep making the same mistakes over and over again.
While they're at it, the Cardinals ought to go ahead and decline Matt Clement's $8.75-million option and save us the suspense.
Speaking of Matt Clement, did we release him, or what is the latest on him?
Time to unload Mulder!

Clement, two months later, is still trying to build his arm strength.
I really think the Cardinals need to review their physical program they use before they sign players to a contract.
