Out of options with Reyes - in more ways than one
Reports out of Colorado indicate that the Rockies interest in Anthony Reyes may have faded.
The Rockies apparently have found the Cardinals' asking price too high and have focused instead on former Cardinal Julian Tavarez to fill their fifth starter slot.
Reyes has appeared once since being demoted to AAA Memphis where the Cardinals are attempting to showcase him to potential suitors. He threw three shutout innings but walked 4 before he reached his pitch limit. He made 51 tosses before hitting the showers.
I'm pessimistic if the Redbirds are going to be able to get their asking price of a major league contributor and a prospect in return for Reyes.
Pitching is at a premium. But the memories of Reyes' 2006 World Series gem is overwhelmed by his awful regular season record in the majors.
It would simply appear that the Cardinals held onto Reyes for too long before they finally realized it was time to move him.
I hear ongoing complaints about the Haren for Mulder trade--which is fine. But I don't hear any complaints about the potential trades that were in all likelihood turned down because Reyes was considered untouchable.

LaRussa and Duncan and ruined every young pitcher they've had since they've been here, so what hope do we have for P.J. Walters?

Speaking of untouchables, package Rasmus and Reyes to the Phillies for Chase Utley. Like Rolen, Utley won't resign in Philly, so this way they get tremendous value for someone who is going to leave anyway.

Larussa and Dunc have crafted another Carpenter out of one young pitcher who they didn't ruin...
Adam Wainwright.
